Process Used to Create Ceramic Bases

The process for choosing the materials is based on Al2O3 content, wear and heat resistance, insulation capacity and color.  The primary characteristics of alumina ceramic include a high melting point, mechanical strength, hardness, wear and heat resistance, heat conduction capacity, and electrical insulation capacity as well as acid and alkali resistance.

At Cerlux, we expertly incorporate the best state-of-the-art manufacturing processes to ensure quality and to keep prices competitive for our ceramic bases and parts.  By using press injection molding, we are able to produce products with complex shapes and thin walls.  For extremely small ceramic parts like electric insulators, wear resistant grinding cylinders, tips and more, we use a hydraulic pressing machine.

Once a product is created, it is fired in kilns under extremely high temperatures.  As a way to reduce our environmental impact, we recycle the heat from our kilns to supply hot water and heat for our entire building.

Glazing is another step in the process and is used to increase the strength of the product as well as to provide a bright, visual surface.  While a mat or shiny glaze is the most common choice of our customers, we also can do any color in the RAL or pantone palette.  A special color can be used as a way to set your product apart or to match corporate colors.  Also decals can be applied to the product after it is glazed and offer a way to have your system components stand out.

LightSources first got its start in 1983, when Christian L. Sauska and his former business partners established the company with the goal of offering global OEM lamp designs and manufacturing that combined state-of-the-art technology with exceptional service and support. Our early success quickly made us aware that we needed to grow our operations to better serve our global customers. In 1993, LightTech, our European equivalent, got its start.

Early on, LightTech recognized the need to expand production capacity and in a short span of eight years they increased the Hungary facility from a mere 5,400 to 150,700 square feet.   The engineering team was also responsible for pioneering a method that simplified the process for changing the length and diameter in the lamp lines.

LightTech’s glass factory grew as well, and in 2001, created one of the most advanced glassworks in Europe. It has the capability of manufacturing T4, T5, T6, T8, T10 and T12 fluorescent and germicidal soft glass. The facility is located on our 20 acre European base in Dunakeszi, Hungary, which also houses all major operations including sales, administrative functions, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution.

Our definition of a germicidal lamp is one that emits a significant portion of its radiative in the UV-C Band (100 to 280nm). The UV lamp generates energy at 185nm, which is quite effective in producing ozone and UV energy of wavelengths shorter than 220nm to decompose oxygen, O², producing ozone, and O³. Also a UV germicidal is a low-pressure mercury lamp in which the envelope has high transmittance for 254nm radiation.

Benefits of MPUVC Lamps in the Waste Water Disinfection Industry

There are several advantages to using germicidal UVC technology over traditional germicidal methods in the sterilization of bacteria, fungi and viruses. At LightTech and LightSources, we are global leaders in the UVC germicidal lamp industry and offer high-qualty and custom-made products as well as the additional benefit of reduced lead times and unmatched innovation.

Our vacuum-sealed medium pressure ultraviolet (MPUV or MPHO) lamps are used for water, air and surface disinfection applications. For industries such as waste water disinfection and marine ballast water treatment systems, MPUV lamps are most commonly used as they emit a far greater UVC energy than low pressure ultraviolet lamps (LPUV). This allows for higher flow rates of water disinfection, and at the same time, maintains a geometric footprint.

MPUV’s also offer the benefit of producing polychromatic (emission of multiple wavelengths) output. Polychromatic UVC lamps will promote advanced oxidation processes (AOP’s) and are used to efficiently reduce and remove micro-pollutants (pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, insecticides, etc.) in waste water. In addition LightSources and LightTech offer the industry lamps that range in sizes from 100 watts per inch to over 700 watts per inch, with arc lengths ranging from 2 to 85 inches.

Our unique MPUV lamps are constructed from high-quality, ultra-low water content fused quartz and comply with the strictest local codes and regulations. To ensure a hermetic seal, our lamps are manufactured with a molybdenum foil within a hard quartz capillary and use pure tungsten pin electrodes with an over-wind of throated tungsten. We also use a precise process when pumping and filling each lamp with an inert Argon gas to ensure accuracy of fill pressure and mercury content. Furthermore, our lamps are constructed using one of our premium metal or ceramic bases and the appropriate electrical terminations to provide our customers with the safest and most effective electrical conductivity.
