A key benefit of partnering with the LightSources Group is the diverse experience gained from each of our respective partner companies.  LightSources is a world leading provider of lighting solutions, partnering with fellow leaders in the industry to provide the most technologically advanced, cost effective solutions available for our customers.

LCD Lighting (LCDL) is a leader in the design and manufacture of high quality long-lasting T2, T4, T5, T8, and T2 fluorescent lighting solutions.  Their product line includes compact fluorescent lamps, aquarium lighting, CCFL Sub-mini lights and HCFL-aperture and reflectors, and specialized back lighting used in computer displays and avionics.

LCDL is a pioneer in research and development with several patented technologies that set them apart from other fluorescent lamp suppliers.  Proprietary products include custom phosphor blends for vibrant color retention and brightness.

The development of LCDL’s proprietary product Robo-Bend allows for serpentine hot and cold cathode lamps to be manufactured automatically with a bending ability.   This results in a reduction in the number of cathodes required in a backlight, often saving twice the power as it is possible to move from six cold cathode lamps to a single hot cathode lamp.  The benefit is faster production and delivery, saving customers money with a reduced work in process time and leaner inventory requirements.

LCD Lighting also offers patented technology Ultra-Bright™, providing twice the efficiency (lm/watts) with fifty percent improvement in lumen output.  Ultra-Bright offers maximum performance for consistent output even in bends, throughout the long-lasting life of the lamp.

LightSources strategic partner, LCDL, delivers professional customer service with the option to create lamps in any size, shape or color, with customized ceramic ends to fit your application.

LCD Lighting, a LightSources strategic partner, is a global leader in specialty fluorescent lighting products. LCD Lighting (LCDL) is a leading supplier of various miniature fluorescent lamps used all over the world in a multitude of products and applications. Working with OEMs large and small, LCDL can provide custom designed expert solutions for virtually any miniature lighting requirement.

LCD Lighting provides hot-cathode (HCFL) and cold cathode (CCFL) fluorescent lamps for numerous applications. The HCFL lights utilize a filament and are used for business purposes including lighting in scanners, copiers and vision systems. LCD’s hot-cathode lineup includes tubular lamps ranging in diameter and length from the smallest size of T2 to T12, where T represents a tubular light and the number stands for an eighth of an inch, i.e. a T8 is eight eights of an inch, or exactly 1 inch. Therefore, the largest size of T12 is 1 ½ inches in diameter. HCFL lights are also used in medical devices, graphic arts and outdoor signs.

The miniature CCFL lamps use an electrode instead of a filament, and are commonly used in various neon sign products in small bendable shapes. Our CCFL lamps range in diameter from 2mm to 10mm, and in lengths from 50 to 3050mm. These small lamps are often used as accent lighting in bendable shapes, while even smaller diameter lamps of 15mm and under are used as back lighting in avionic displays in commercial and military applications, vehicles, computers and even the NASA space shuttle.

Both hot and cold cathode lamps use mercury vapor to enhance the phosphor coating, emitting the proper amount of visible light.  LCD Lighting and the experts at the LightSources Group can customize a specialty fluorescent solution just for you, in any size, shape or color and wattage. As world leaders, LCDL’s products are made with patented proprietary technology, providing high performance with long lasting life. Which is Better for Your Application – Quartz Glass or Soft Glass?

post 89

At LightSources and LightTech, we offer our customers a choice of quality germicidal UVC lamps in either quartz glass or soft glass.  One of the biggest differences between the two is that quartz germicidal glass is made from silica phosphate, which gives it a much harder tensile strength.  Germicidal soft glass is made from a highly refined and pure type of soda lime glass that is similar to visible light fluorescent lamps.

So how do you know which glass is better for your application?  To start with, if your application requires the highest UVC output possible and a long operational life, then you will probably want to go with high-quality quartz glass UVC germicidal lamps.  However as the glass does have a very high Celsius melting point that makes it more difficult to work and requires skilled human operators to manufacture, it is more expensive to produce.  Nonetheless despite the higher cost, the advantages include an approximately 9% higher transmission of UVC than soft glass as well as a higher initial UVC output.

Additionally quartz germicidal UVC lamps can produce 254nm wavelength (killing wave) and 185nm wavelength (Ozone) while still maintaining 85% of their output at 16,000 hours.  The quartz glass is also perfect for high powered lamp designs such as amalgam lamps.

Soft glass has a relatively lower Fahrenheit melting point that makes it much easier to work.  This means that it lends itself to manufacturing automation and can be produced at a lower cost.  The disadvantages of soft glass UVC germicidal lamps is that the transmission of UVC is around 9 percent lower than quartz lamps and has a lower initial UVC output.  Also soft glass does not allow the transmission of UVC wavelengths below 200nm, which means that it cannot be used to produce ozone at 185nm.

LightSources and our affiliated companies represent the leading high-tech designers and manufacturers in the lamp industry today.  Our products are used world-wide in a multitude of applications and industries such as our UV germicidal lamps that offer patent-protected, OEM-oriented solutions.  Please contact us to learn more about our large selection of specialty custom and standard lamps.
