Combined Resources Advance Fluorescent Light Technology

LightSources and our valuable affiliate company, LCD Lighting, give our customers advantages with innovative technology.  Through continual research and development, LCDL and LightSources have developed patented technology utilized in high performing fluorescent lamps.  Our proprietary products include Ultra-Bright™, Robo-Bend, Long-Life™, and High CRI (color rendering index).

These state-of-the-art solutions are utilized by OEMs large and small around the globe, as this partnership is recognized as one of the best in the world for fluorescent lighting excellence.

Innovative Technology in Fluorescent Lighting

LCDL and LightSources provide high-performing fluorescent lighting to OEMs worldwide in the following industries:

  • avionic display, including NASA space shuttle
  • automotive interior lighting
  • computer and electronic backlighting
  • fluorescent lamps used in architectural, buildings and warehouses
  • advertising signs and displays

Proprietary technologies developed from these combined resources have set the industry standard for specialty fluorescent lighting, used in these and many more commercial and industrial applications.

Ultra-Bright technology was developed with a combination of advanced materials and manufacturing processes, resulting in lamps that offer double the efficacy (lumens / watts), with maximum uniform lighting.

Our cutting-edge Robo-Bend proprietary technology allows engineers to replace multiple lamp systems in backlighting technology applications with one single 8mm or 9mm LCDL serpentine hot and cold cathode lamp.  Our advanced technology allows manufacturing of serpentine hot and cold cathode lamps incorporated with a bending process.

Long Life

Long Life technology improves many fluorescent lighting applications with less maintenance and bulb replacement, thus resulting in a quick return on investment.  Our Long Life lamps provide exceptionally long operating life of up to 60,000 hours with our T5 and T8 lamps, and up to 50,000 on T12.  (60,000 hours equals 2,500 days, or 6.85 years!)  Replacing your specialty fluorescent lamps every six to seven years makes good sense in outdoor signs, warehouses or difficult to reach places.

High CRI (Color Rendering Index)

Proprietary innovative technology produces true and natural colors with more earth tri-phosphors than other fluorescent lamp manufacturers.  Our high-tech engineers and designers continue to research cutting-edge advancements in fluorescent lighting technology.

LightSources, with our affiliated companies including LCD Lighting, represent the foremost high-tech designers and manufacturers in the fluorescent lamp industry today.  LCD Lighting has designed and manufactured custom fluorescent lamps for virtually any type of OEM lighting application.  Contact us today to learn more about our exclusive fluorescent light technology.

LightTech in Europe operates one of the most advanced glass factories in Europe, meeting demanding production schedules in addition to employing engineers with expertise in lighting technology.  Our large capacity, state-of-the-art glassworks factory opened in 2001, and is the only in the region manufacturing UV germicidal, open, closed, FS lamps as well as our proprietary SolGlass® lamps enhancing the tanning industry with advanced technology.

With commitment to continual research and development, LightSources and LightTech have developed several patented and proprietary products setting new standards and leading the industry with cutting-edge lighting technology.  With complete control in our glass making processes, we offer high performing best in class quality products, saving you time and money with low-maintenance and long life.  Our lamps are proven to exhibit greater performance in fluorescent and UV solutions throughout the entire life cycle when compared to other lamp manufacturers.

Types of Glass

There are basically four types of glass that produce just about every type of lamp including general light bulbs, fluorescent lamps in signs and industrial applications, UV germicidal lamps treating air, water and surfaces, lamps used to treat skin conditions in the dermatology field, and UV lamps for tanning purposes.  The uses for UV and fluorescent lighting are endless, benefiting commercial and industrial applications worldwide.

  • Open Glass – open glass designs have approximately 35% transmission, allowing for a balanced ratio of UVA and UVB waves to pass through the lamp glass. Open glass lamps are often used in the tanning industry in North America.
  • Closed Glass – closed glass lamp designs are often used in tanning in Europe, which emit more UVA energy while limiting UVB energy.
  • Germicidal Soft Glass – Germicidal soft glass allows for the highest amount of UV transmission with 91%, including maximum UVC exposure which is highly effective in sterilizing water and air. UVC germicidal lamps are used worldwide to eradicate bacteria, virus and harmful pathogens in countless applications.
  • FS Glass – FS glass offers a combination of open and closed glass, using a very narrow phosphor band resulting in pure UVB exposure, effective in dermatological applications benefiting people with various skin conditions.

LightSources and LightTech have vast knowledge in ultraviolet radiation, and in providing the most effective wavelength in nanometers (nm) for required applications.  All glass types are available in T4, T5, T6, & T8 dimensions, with cut or collared glass options.

What is Color Rendering Index (CRI)?

post 116

Color Rendering index (CRI) is a rating scale to assign the effectiveness of a light source in rendering colors, compared with natural daylight.  A CRI of 100 is equal to natural daylight referring to the highest ability of color rendering which is by the sun itself.  On the contrary, a low CRI of 50 or less means that the light source does not render colors very well.  An acceptable CRI in fluorescent lighting is 80 to 95, which equates to an excellent color rendering ability.

Where is CRI Important in Industry?

Knowing the CRI of your lighting has great benefits and will provide competitive advantages in certain industrial applications.  For example, in the jewelry store you want your lighting to reflect the full spectrum of lighting when exposed to diamonds and jewels, showcasing your items and making them more appealing and desirable.

A high CRI index used in clothing displays makes a big difference in the appearance of clothing, casting an appealing glow in the right displays to reveal vibrant color schemes.  Food displays in restaurants, showcasing primed aged meats or delectable desserts can make the difference in a consumer’s decision to appease their appetite.  Whatever your lighting application, do not underestimate the power of pleasing, high quality lighting with a high color rendering index.

LCD Lighting, a valued partner company to The LightSources Group, has developed proprietary color rendering index technology with more rare-earth tri-phosphors revealing natural true colors.  With advanced technology, LightSources and LCD Lighting can develop custom colors for specific requirements in various applications.

Fluorescent Lamp Color Specification

With more than 100 various shades of white, it is important to choose the right color coordinates for your fluorescent lighting application.  Even the slightest variation will make a difference in many different environments.  The most effective method of defining the color is with color coordinates.

We can choose an existing phosphor blend with exact color coordinates for your application, or we can develop a unique phosphor blend just for your specific needs.

LightSources and its affiliated companies – LCD Lighting, Voltarc, LightTech, and Cerlux represent the leading high-tech designers and manufacturers in the lamp industry today. Our standard lamps and components as well as customized products offer high-quality solutions to meet our partner’s unique needs.  We invite you to contact us to learn more about our wide selection of lamps.

Phototherapy Provides Healing Benefits

post 95

Fluorescent lighting is used to treat many health, skin and mood disorders providing healing benefits for various medical conditions.  This light therapy is so effective, it is also known as phototherapy, and is used worldwide providing safe, fast and proven effective results for various medical conditions.  Fluorescent lighting emitted at particular wavelengths, provides treatment for various conditions at particular Nanometer (Nm).

Phototherapy Heals Skin Conditions

Many people suffer from psoriasis, an immune related disease that causes red, scaly patches to appear on the skin.  There are various forms of psoriasis, some more serious than others, with most appearing as itchy red areas with stinging and burning sensations.  The National Psoriasis Foundation supports the use of phototherapy to treat psoriasis, but only with a prescription and under a doctor’s orders.  They also warn that indoor tanning beds do not provide the same treatment as prescribed UV light.

Phototherapy in the form of UVB light provides maximum effectiveness for psoriasis, and patients can be given an at home treatment lamp with just the right amount of healing UVB rays.   Exposure to UVB rays causes the affected area to slow down the production of skin cells, allowing the area to heal.

UV light can also treat other skin conditions such as eczema and acne by suppressing an overactive immune system, and reducing the symptoms of itchy and inflamed skin.  Fluorescent wavelengths in the range of 415 nm are effective at killing bacteria, aiding in clearing skin affected with acne.

Phototherapy for Jaundice

Jaundice is a condition causing a yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes, and can be common in newborn babies.  The yellowing of the skin is caused by a build-up of toxins in the body as the liver cannot break down these toxins like a healthy fully functioning liver.   “Bili” lights are used to break down bilirubin, thus improving jaundice in newborn infants.   New parents can be sent home with the specialty lighting, while nurturing their newborns onto healthy livers with these fluorescent lights.

Light Therapy and Diabetes

Light therapy can be used in different ways to help people with diabetes.  UV light can aid in wound healing, providing safe and effective treatment to speed up healing and fight infection by killing bacteria and viruses.

UV light is also used to treat a severe eye condition called diabetic retinopathy, which damages the retina in 80% of diabetic people that have had the disease for 20 years or more.  Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in people ages 20 to 64.  Light therapy can reduce this disease from progressing in a surprising 90% of all new cases with proper treatment and monitoring.

Mood and Emotional Disorders Improved with Phototherapy

Many mood and emotional disorders are much improved with exposure to UV light.  Those suffering from depression, especially that caused by less exposure to daylight hours can be improved by UV exposure in as little as one week.

Consistency is important for any type of phototherapy to be effective.
