Phototherapy Provides Healing Benefits

post 95

Fluorescent lighting is used to treat many health, skin and mood disorders providing healing benefits for various medical conditions.  This light therapy is so effective, it is also known as phototherapy, and is used worldwide providing safe, fast and proven effective results for various medical conditions.  Fluorescent lighting emitted at particular wavelengths, provides treatment for various conditions at particular Nanometer (Nm).

Phototherapy Heals Skin Conditions

Many people suffer from psoriasis, an immune related disease that causes red, scaly patches to appear on the skin.  There are various forms of psoriasis, some more serious than others, with most appearing as itchy red areas with stinging and burning sensations.  The National Psoriasis Foundation supports the use of phototherapy to treat psoriasis, but only with a prescription and under a doctor’s orders.  They also warn that indoor tanning beds do not provide the same treatment as prescribed UV light.

Phototherapy in the form of UVB light provides maximum effectiveness for psoriasis, and patients can be given an at home treatment lamp with just the right amount of healing UVB rays.   Exposure to UVB rays causes the affected area to slow down the production of skin cells, allowing the area to heal.

UV light can also treat other skin conditions such as eczema and acne by suppressing an overactive immune system, and reducing the symptoms of itchy and inflamed skin.  Fluorescent wavelengths in the range of 415 nm are effective at killing bacteria, aiding in clearing skin affected with acne.

Phototherapy for Jaundice

Jaundice is a condition causing a yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes, and can be common in newborn babies.  The yellowing of the skin is caused by a build-up of toxins in the body as the liver cannot break down these toxins like a healthy fully functioning liver.   “Bili” lights are used to break down bilirubin, thus improving jaundice in newborn infants.   New parents can be sent home with the specialty lighting, while nurturing their newborns onto healthy livers with these fluorescent lights.

Light Therapy and Diabetes

Light therapy can be used in different ways to help people with diabetes.  UV light can aid in wound healing, providing safe and effective treatment to speed up healing and fight infection by killing bacteria and viruses.

UV light is also used to treat a severe eye condition called diabetic retinopathy, which damages the retina in 80% of diabetic people that have had the disease for 20 years or more.  Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in people ages 20 to 64.  Light therapy can reduce this disease from progressing in a surprising 90% of all new cases with proper treatment and monitoring.

Mood and Emotional Disorders Improved with Phototherapy

Many mood and emotional disorders are much improved with exposure to UV light.  Those suffering from depression, especially that caused by less exposure to daylight hours can be improved by UV exposure in as little as one week.

Consistency is important for any type of phototherapy to be effective.

LightSources Provides Proven Phototherapy Solutions

The experts at LightSources have vast experience with all ranges of the UV light spectrum, providing knowledgeable assistance with the proper lamps for your application.  We have lamps for existing light therapy mechanisms, or we can manufacture custom lamps to fit your custom equipment.

What are My Options with Energy Efficient Light Bulbs?

post 102

We all want to do our part when it comes to saving energy, being ‘green’ and contributing to a healthier planet.  But when it comes to light bulbs, how do we know which energy saving options are the best?  Which bulbs last the longest and save the most energy?

Traditional incandescent bulbs use a lot of energy to emit light, thus 90% of the energy used is given off as heat and is wasted.  This is why these traditional light bulbs are being phased out of use.  Energy saving choices for light bulbs today includes halogen incandescent, compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL), and light emitting diodes commonly known as LED lighting.   These newer choices may cost a little more to purchase, but they will save you money during their life cycle.

Compact fluorescent bulbs are more energy efficient than halogen incandescent, and will pay for themselves usually within nine months of use.  CFL bulbs have been shown to use about one fourth of the energy as traditional incandescent bulbs and can last up to ten times longer, providing a quick return on your investment not to mention the time saved in changing bulbs!  LED lighting is quickly becoming a popular choice with advancements in technology.  LEDs are Energy Star™ rated and use about 25% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs, lasting up to 25 times longer.

One of the ways we provide our clients valuable solutions is with our Long Life Technology. This high-tech advancement is a result of LCDL’s on-going commitment to R & D and is available on our T8 and T12 lamps. The technology fully encloses the filament assembly with a shield, called Cup-Cathode Technology to provide longer life and greater efficiency by preventing filament emission coating sputter that leads to lumen depreciation. For example, our Long Life T8 lamps provide a life expectancy of up to six times greater than a standard T12 HO lamp. In addition one of our Long Life T12 lamps offers a five times greater efficiency from a standard T12 when used with electronic warm-start ballast.

Another value-added service LCD Lighting offers is our lamp sub-assemblies (LSA). When we produce fully assembled LSA units according to your drawings and specifications, you receive ready-to-go equipment, saving valuable time and money. In addition we offer high-quality KULKA lampholders & wiring devices.

Precision Color Rendering for Theatrical, Architectural, & Decorative Applications

One of the strengths of LightSources’ affiliate, LCD Lighting, is to design, engineer and manufacture lighting for stage, screen, studio, and theater applications as well as for museums, auditoriums, architectural, display and interior decorative applications. Our experienced team understands the complexities of producing fluorescent lamps that meet the unique needs of architects, artists and curator’s exacting standards.

At LCD Lighting, we have created a selection of lamps designed for SSTV/Film applications. Our Kel Select™ 32 lamps contain a phosphor blend that is highly compatible with tungsten halogen light sources and meet the specific demands of filming with 32 film.   We also offer the industry our Kel Select™ 56 lamps that are compatible with supplemental HMI® and other 56 light sources and fully meet the demands of 56 film.

In terms of architectural, display and interior decorative lighting solutions, we create colored lamps that are ideal for parties, carnivals, museums, sculpture, nightclubs, bars, restaurants, bowling alleys and much more. Our glass lamps use a phosphor that provides a true red, green, blue, pink, and gold light and do not have an exterior coating or color shield. Another benefit of our lighting is that the phosphor blends do not fade or peel.

For auditorium and movie theater lighting, we offer clients both standard and custom color options. Our broad range of standard colors include cool white, warm white, daylight, blue, green, red, and tri-band, with ultraviolet and infrared phosphors. If your needs require, we will blend a customized color.

Another specialty of LCD Lighting is to provide lighting for gallery, viewing, and displays for places such as museums. We know that lights play an extremely important part in how art is seen and our goal is to help heighten the public’s viewing experience in any way possible.

The Technology behind Our Proprietary SolGlass®

9.12.15

SolGlass® is a perfect example of what can be accomplished when two industry giants join forces. Used in fluorescent and tanning lamps, SolGlass® was created when LightSources and LightTech combined resources to develop this innovative, proprietary glass technology. Tanning customers get the most unbelievable results when using SolGlass® lamps and we consider it to be the most significant breakthrough in tanning since the sun.

Standard fluorescent and tanning lamps are inherently designed to filter out UV rays. To have an effect on the skin, the glass requires UV phosphors as well as a powerful wattage to blast enough UV rays through the tube’s built-in filter. The biggest problem with this need is that it degrades the performance and operating life of a standard lamp.

So how does the SolGlassTM technology work? Our proprietary “open” glass allows for a more effective and efficient UV transmission especially at wavelengths used for tanning that offer the best results. The LightSources’ lamp is the only one in the industry that contains this UVB spectrum as well as providing the highest UVA readings. Our 300nm technology permits more than 75% of the UVB energy to pass through while standard U.S. tanning lamps typically only allow around 36%.

Now with the invention of our SolGlass® unique glass technology and proprietary phosphor blend, the tanning industry can get lamps that offer instant gratification with immediate coloring as well as persistent pigmentation and lasting results. Furthermore, our lamps meet all U.S. regulations and are in alignment with European regulations including 0.3W/m2 sunbed or class 3 sunbed regulations. We also continue to receive positive feedback from end-users all around the world.

LightSources and our affiliated companies represent the leading high-tech designers and manufacturers in the lamp industry today. Our products are used world-wide in a multitude of applications and industries such as our UV germicidal lamps that offer patent-protected, OEM-oriented solutions. Our team consists of the most highly skilled professionals that specialize in a range of innovative solutions.
